There’s something about September that always feels like a fresh start.

Maybe it’s leftover back-to-school energy. Maybe it’s the first morning that’s slightly less hot here in Southern Utah and suddenly we’re all pretending it’s sweater weather.

Whatever it is, I love this time of year for business, too.

Summer is winding down. The holidays are on the horizon. And we have a few months left to look at what we’ve accomplished this year and decide how we want to finish it.

It’s also a really good time to give your marketing a little refresh.

Not a complete rebrand.

Not a brand-new strategy because you saw something trending on Instagram.

Just a thoughtful check-in.

That’s a big part of how I approach holistic digital marketing at Copper Content. Instead of looking at SEO, ads, your website, social media, and content as completely separate things, I want to know how they’re working together.

So, before Q4 gets into full swing, here are seven things I’d take a look at.

1. Look Back Before You Plan Forward

Before deciding what you’re going to do this fall, take a minute to look at what you’ve already done.

What worked this year?

What didn’t?

Which services brought in the most leads?

Which Google Ads campaigns performed best?

Which pages are getting traffic from SEO?

Did you have a promotion that completely flopped?

It happens!

Marketing gets much easier when you stop starting from scratch every month and start using the information you already have.

Sometimes the answer isn’t doing something new.

It’s doing more of what’s already working.

2. Update Anything That’s Still Screaming Summer

Go look at your website right now.

Does the homepage still have your Memorial Day promotion on it?

Are you running ads talking about a summer special that ended three weeks ago?

Is your Google Business Profile showing outdated hours?

Seasonal transitions are a great reminder to do a quick sweep of your online presence.

Update promotions, photos, banners, business hours, landing pages, and anything else that might be outdated.

It’s a small thing, but it makes your business feel active and cared for.

3. Start Thinking About Holiday Marketing Now

I know.

It’s September.

Nobody wants to talk about Christmas yet.

But from a marketing perspective, now is exactly when we should start thinking about it.

If you’re planning holiday promotions, gift cards, Black Friday offers, seasonal packages, events, or end-of-year campaigns, don’t wait until the week before Thanksgiving to figure everything out.

Think about what you’re offering.

What creative will you need?

Do we need a new landing page?

Will we run Google or Meta Ads?

Do we need emails?

Could we write SEO content ahead of time?

Giving yourself a little runway makes everything easier—and usually better.

4. Refresh Your Google Business Profile

If you’re a local business, this one takes 15 minutes and is absolutely worth doing.

Check your hours.

Upload a few new photos.

Make sure your services are accurate.

Respond to any reviews you’ve missed.

Double-check your website and contact information.

If you have seasonal offerings, make sure those are represented where appropriate.

Your Google Business Profile is often someone’s first interaction with your business.

You want it to look like someone actually lives there.

5. Look at Your Website Like You’ve Never Seen It Before

This can be surprisingly hard when you’ve looked at your own website approximately 4,000 times.

Try to pretend you’re a brand-new customer.

Can you immediately tell what you do?

Can you tell who you serve?

Is there an obvious next step?

Can you easily contact or book with you?

Does everything work on your phone?

Your website doesn’t necessarily need a redesign every fall. But websites do need maintenance.

Businesses evolve.

Services change.

Pricing changes.

Teams change.

Your website should evolve with you.

6. Don’t Let SEO Take the Fall Off

SEO is one of those things businesses tend to get excited about for a few months and then forget exists.

Unfortunately, Google does not take fall break.

September is actually a great time to look at your SEO strategy because the content you’re creating now can continue working for you throughout Q4 and into next year.

Maybe that means publishing helpful seasonal blogs.

Maybe you need to update old content.

Maybe your service pages haven’t been optimized yet.

Maybe there are keywords you’re almost ranking for that could use a little attention.

This is where the long-term side of marketing comes in.

Not everything you do needs to generate a customer tomorrow.

Some of it should make your business easier to find six months from now.

7. Make Sure Everything Is Actually Working Together

This is the big one.

You could be doing SEO.

Running Google Ads.

Posting on Instagram.

Sending emails.

Writing blogs.

Running Meta Ads.

Great!

But are they actually supporting each other?

That’s what I mean when I talk about holistic digital marketing.

Maybe your Google Ads are bringing people to a landing page that hasn’t been updated in two years.

Maybe you’re writing great blogs but there’s no obvious way for readers to become customers.

Maybe your Instagram is beautiful, but your website doesn’t match the brand people just fell in love with.

Maybe you’re paying for traffic but your conversion tracking isn’t working.

Doing more marketing isn’t always the answer.

Sometimes we need to connect the pieces we’re already doing.

You Don’t Have to Do Everything This Fall

I think this is worth saying because marketing advice online can get overwhelming really quickly.

“You need to post every day!”

“You need email marketing!”

“You need TikTok!”

“You need Google Ads!”

“You need to publish four blogs a week!”

Do you?

Maybe.

But probably not all at once.

At Copper Content Marketing, I care much more about building a strategy that’s sustainable for your actual business.

I’d rather see you consistently doing three things well than attempting 15 marketing strategies, getting overwhelmed, and abandoning all of them by November.

Look at your goals.

Look at your budget.

Look at your time.

Then decide which pieces deserve your attention right now.

That’s a much more sustainable way to market a business.

Give Your Marketing a Little Fall Reset

September doesn’t have to mean reinventing your entire marketing strategy.

Think of it as a check-in.

What’s working?

What needs a little love?

What can we stop doing?

And what do we want to build before the year is over?

That’s the kind of holistic digital marketing I believe in at Copper Content—looking at your business as a whole and making thoughtful decisions about where your marketing time and money will actually make an impact.
